From a Glycerin Recipe to a Swiss Institution

In 1929 a Swiss traveller named Gotthilf Mettler came home from Britain with a glycerin soap recipe and an idea. Glycerin was almost unknown in Europe at the time; Mettler built his own factory in Henniez to produce it, and his first product — the Soap for Doctors — became a fixture in Swiss pharmacies. It is still made, still sold, and still costs less than a sandwich. Nearly a century later, the family soap works has grown into a full cosmetics house, but the founding logic hasn't changed: gentle formulas, honest ingredients, made in Switzerland.
